welt am sonntag guest edition by andreas gursky

A setup that only WELT can deliver

On December 13 and 14, the WELT AM SONNTAG Guest Edition was published—an extraordinary highlight in which journalistic excellence met art. Curated with attitude and a clear artistic signature, the result was a collector’s item with great appeal. The WELT AM SONNTAG highlight edition combined interviews, essays, and award-winning imagery into a cross-media work of art that made advertisements shine in a culturally outstanding environment.

The focus was on Andreas Gursky, one of the world’s most important contemporary artists. His large-format, digitally composed works hang in renowned museums and are worth millions – they will be on display in New York and Paris, among other places, in 2025.

WELT brought the Guest Edition to life across multiple media – with over 3.5 million contacts* and a print run of 750,000 copies. It was more than a journalistic product: it was a collector’s item. A work of art. A statement.

wer ist andreas gursky?

Andreas Gursky is one of the most important contemporary artists. His large-format works hang in leading museums, are represented by top galleries such as Gagosian and Sprüth Magers, and fetch millions at auctions. Gursky pushes the boundaries of photography with his digitally composed images: each work is created from many individual photographs that are assembled into an artistic, detailed meta-realism. With his unmistakable view of global structures, mass movements, and the aesthetics of reality, Gursky not only creates images, he creates perspectives.

“My works are often seismographs of world events, which is why I find it exciting to embed them in the direct context of a weekly newspaper.” (Andreas Gursky)
